The 2014 WIPO Mediation, (Expedited) Arbitration and Expert Determination Rules

The 2014 WIPO Mediation, (Expedited) Arbitration and Expert Determination Rules (“The 2014 WIPO Rules”) will enter into effect on the 1st of June 2014.

The 2014 WIPO Rules have taken on board various amendments aimed at accommodating external developments in arbitration, including the 2014 revision of the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. They also reflect best practices adopted by WIPO over the years and promote WIPO’s commitment to administering proceedings that are efficient in terms of both time and costs.

With the exception of the provisions on emergency relief (unless parties agree otherwise, Article 49 of the 2014 Arbitration Rules / Article 43 of the 2014 Expedited Arbitration Rules will apply only to Arbitration Agreements entered into on or after 1 June 2014), the 2014 WIPO Mediation, (Expedited) Arbitration and Expert Determination Rules will apply to all WIPO mediations, (expedited) arbitrations and expert determinations commenced on or after 1 June 2014.
